What an AI companion app does

You choose or create a character, and you text. The character answers in a consistent voice, remembers what you tell it, and over weeks the conversation becomes a story of its own. Some apps add photos, voice messages or calls, and let you shape the character’s looks and personality.

Most run on a flat monthly subscription with a limited free plan. A few, Luvi among them, charge for what you use instead.

What Luvi does differently

• Characters, not a configurator: each one has an original portrait, realistic or illustrated, a personality and a first message written in their own voice. Hover a card and the portrait moves.
• Replies that read like a person texting: a few short messages at a time, in the language you write in, never a wall of text.
• Photos when the moment calls for one, and a Listen control that performs every reply in the character’s voice.
• Memory that does not stop at a list: editable memories plus a recap of everything older than the recent messages, so the fiftieth message still knows the first.
• A character who writes back when the conversation has gone quiet, by email as well as in the app.
• Your own characters and your own persona, with photos and a recorded voice; share a character with every member or keep it to yourself.
• Credits instead of a flat fee: pay for the replies, photos and voice you actually use. Automatic top-ups stay off unless you turn them on.

Two free replies for every new account. A reply costs 1 credit, a voice playback 2 and a photo 10. A membership is $9.99 a month or $47.88 a year for 100 credits every month, and members can add credit packs from $9.99 that never expire. Automatic top-ups stay off unless you turn them on.
